QIAS Validation Surveys

The centre Director and staff are required to complete a Validation Survey based on the Principles stated in the QIAS Quality Practices Guide. The Principle will be stated and the Director and staff will be asked to indicate whether the centre is achieving this Principle at an Unsatisfactory, Satisfactory, Good Quality or High Quality level.


Surveys for Families

Families are asked to complete a Validation Survey which has a series of statements based on the Principles stated in the QIAS Quality Practices Guide. Families will be asked to indicate whether the typical practice of the centre is at an Unsatisfactory, Satisfactory, Good Quality or High Quality level. The current statements on this Survey are:

Staff Relationships with children and Peers

  • Staff interact with my child in a warm a friendly way
  • Staff guide my child's behaviour in positive ways
  • Staff communicate with my child respectfully
  • Staff respect my child’s abilities and family background
  • Staff treat my child fairly
  • Staff communicate effectively with each other
  • Staff work well as a team

Partnerships with Families

  • Staff communicate with my family about my child verbally and in writing
  • Staff communicate with my family about the Centre verbally and in writing
  • Staff welcome and encourage my family’s participation in the Centre
  • At the time of enrolment, the Centre provided a settling-in period for my child and family

Programming and Evaluation

  • The Centre provides my family with information about the values and ideals that guide its daily operations
  • My child’s learning is documented and is shared with my family
  • The daily program includes a variety of experiences that support my child’s learning

Children’s Experiences and Learning

  • Staff encourage my child to make choices and participate in play
  • Staff encourage and support my child’s friendships with others
  • Staff promote my child’s language and literacy skills
  • Staff encourage my child’s problem solving and mathematical thinking abilities
  • Staff encourage my child to be involved in creative experiences such as art, music, drama, dance and imaginative play
  • Staff promote my child’s physical development and abilities

Protective Care and Safety

  • Staff implement policies and procedures to protect my child's health, wellbeing and safety
  • Staff supervise children at all times
  • Staff ensure that my child is safe from potentially dangerous products, plants, objects and substances
  • The centre ensures that buildings and equipment are safe
  • The centre promotes occupational health and safety

Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing

  • Staff promote healthy eating habits
  • Staff apply appropriate food safety and hygiene practices (for example correct storage, preparation and serving of food)
  • Staff encourage my child to follow simple rules of hygiene such as washing hands before mealtimes and after toileting
  • Staff ensure that toileting and nappy changing are positive experiences and meet my child’s individual needs
  • Staff support my child’s needs for rest, sleep and comfort
  • Staff act to minimise the spread of infectious diseases
  • Staff maintain up to date records of my child’s immunisations

Managing to support quality

  • Information about the Centre and the way it operates is provided to my family
  • Information is provided to my family about how to offer suggestions or to raise any complaints or concerns about the Centre
  • My child experiences consistency in their relationships with staff
  • My family is informed of any staff changes
  • All staff members are introduced to my child and to my family
  • My family is informed of regular opportunities provided by the Centre for ongoing staff training and professional development

Validation Surveys must be returned to NCAC in one submission by the due date specified in the letter from NCAC.

Please note: Validation Surveys are designed for data collection to assist NCAC in making an Accreditation Decision. Services wishing to survey staff or families during the self-study process are encouraged to design their own surveys which encourage written feedback on various aspects of care and relate specifically to the service's practices.

Validation Surveys will be sent to each service upon reciept of the Self-Study Report. Sample Validation Surveys are no longer available for download.
