Required Policies

The following tables outline the policies for each Child Care Quality Assurance system that services are required to have.

NCAC encourages services to reflect upon their daily practices; seek the currency, accuracy and clarification of information from recognised authorities; and collaborate with children, families, staff and carers throughout the policy development process.

Sample Policy Templates are available from this website to assist services in developing policies.


Family Day Care Quality Assurance (FDCQA)

Satisfactory - Standard required for Accreditation

Selection and use of cots, beds and bedding   4.5: Children's needs for rest, sleep and comfort are supported
Child protection   4.6: Current State or Territory legislation relating to child protection and wellbeing is implemented consistently
Recruitment and selection of carers and coordination unit staff   5.1: Recruitment, selection and orientation processes for carers and coordination unit staff encourage and support the provision of a quality service
Conducting visits in a carer’s home   5.2: The scheme has a systematic process in place to monitor current practice and identify areas for continuing improvement
Training and development   5.3: Professional development opportunities are accessed by carers, coordination unit staff and others involved in management
Managing records   6.3: The scheme has an efficient, effective and ethical process for the management of records
Grievance and complaints   6.4: The scheme has simple and transparent grievance and complaints handling procedures

Supporting children with health needs, administration of medication, and dealing with sick or injured children   6.4: The service plans to meet the individual health requirements of children
Protective care   7.1: The service has effective policies and procedures on protective care

Food safety and hygiene   6.2: Staff implement effective and current food safety and hygiene practices
Dental care   6.3: Staff encourage children to follow simple rules of hygiene
Safe comfortable sleep and rest   6.5: Staff support each child's needs for rest, sleep and comfort
Clothing   6.5: Staff support each child's needs for rest, sleep and comfort
Sun protection   6.5: Staff support each child's needs for rest, sleep and comfort
Immunisation and infectious diseases   6.6: The centre acts to control the spread of infectious diseases and maintains records of immunisations
